WHO? All Bell Students

WHAT? Bell’s Annual Walk-a-thon!

WHERE? Bell School (outside)

WHEN? Thursday, October 10

9:15 a.m.: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades

10:15 a.m.: Kindergarten/Pre-K, 1st, and 2nd grades

11:15 a.m.: 6th, 7th, and 8th grades

WHY? All students participate in a walk-a-thon to help raise money for Friends of Bell. The money goes to programs above what CPS provides such as art supplies, technical equipment, athletic support, grade level residency programs like Poetry and Civics, among many other areas. The efforts from the Bell Walk are critical to maintain the quality of education that we continually strive for and appreciate at Bell. Our goal is to raise $100,000. With approximately 1,000 students at Bell, together, we can achieve this goal. Every donation is appreciated and no donation is too small. Thank you for your support! For questions, please e-mail bellschool.bellwalk@gmail.com.

Donations are due October 17. A pledge sheet was sent home in backpack mail for your students to use to track donations they may receive from family and friends for their participation in this event.  Need another copy?  Click here: PLEDGE SHEET.  The donations are not per lap. We encourage making donations online. For online donations, donors need to know your student’s grade, classroom number, and graduating year. If all of your donations are made online, you do not need to return the pledge sheet. For cash and check donations, please put them in an envelope with the pledge sheet and return it to school by Oct. 17. Please make checks payable to Friends of Bell.

What can parents do? Help your child communicate to family members, neighbors and friends what they will be doing to raise money for Bell. Dress your student for the weather and in athletic shoes. All students receive a Bell Walk t-shirt the day of the event to wear while walking, over their coats if necessary. Volunteer parents mark the back of the shirts to track the students’ laps, which is done for fun, as it does not affect the donation amount. The t-shirts make a great keepsake of the event. To volunteer, please use the online sign-up posted on the website, in the Blink, and sent via e-mail. Finally, please come and cheer on the students! It’s a wonderful Bell tradition.

Fundraising incentives: If Bell reaches its goal, Principal Miller and Vice-Principal Kosko will compete in Bell’s own comical DINO RACE, where they race dressed in blow-up dinosaur costumes! Additionally, the classroom that raises the most participates in a COLOR RUN, where they are sprinkled with different color powders, transforming their Bell Walk t-shirts into magical rainbow shirts. Finally, students can earn individual incentives as follows:

  1. Participation Bell Walk T-Shirt (Distributed the day of the Walk)
  2. $100-$199 Bell car magnet (Plus level 1)
  3. $200-$299 Bell drawstring bag (Plus level 1 and 2)
  4. $300-$399 Bell power bank (Plus level 1, 2 & 3)
  5. $400-$500 Bell umbrella (Plus level 1, 2, 3 & 4)
  6. $500 + A chance, via a drawing, to be the Official for Bell’s Dino Race! (Plus level 1 – 5)
